Where do ideas come from?....The Brain Works by Year 1 children (5 -6 Year olds)
Where do ideas come from?
When the children were asked this question there was
not too much hesitation. “From inside my head” and
where inside your head? “My brain”.
The discussion turned into a practical activity where
the children were demonstrating the intricate
patterns
of the brain with their hands and fingers. It now
needed to be fixed on a surface so it was decided that
the best way to go about constructing the brain was by
collage.
Each child made a 3D representation of his/her brain.
Coloured paper was cut into spirals, strips, circles and
incredible sculptures were forged.
Theories burst into shared research and a plan of the
brain was designed where specific activities had
allocated areas. To help the comprehension of the
diversity and amount of areas it was decided that each

The children spontaneously told me that the brain has areas and that
each one has a special purpose. AMAZING!!!!!!
