Visions on outdoor learning and new teaching perspectives.

A full immersion weekend on gaining insights on outdoor learning and new teaching perspective happen in a quaint town in Northen Italy, Treviglio.
I signed up on a Forest School training course and learnt almost nothing about it but was rewarded by new and powerful insights on proposing learning through the wider perspective of creating narratives and environments that promote close collaboration with the children through play in a 360° experience. Here are a few insights I would like to share.
  • The importance of play for teachers as in understanding through active engagement.
  • The importance of play for children as an act of harmony and balance with the his/her relation to the environment in a social, emotional and cognitive context.
  • If the above is not available then it will be looked for, craved and scavenged.
  • Change happens when great minds reach out empathically to enable a new seed to grown nourishing the ground and setting a gradual shift in vision.
  • To be sensible could mean to be in harmony with the senses ....are they all working together toward understanding?
  • The importance of a stable flow of expansion and compression in learning: indoor-outdoor, abstract-practical, controlled-spontaneous
  • The importance of mixing age groups so that peer learning becomes a flow of knowledge.
  • The importance to allow children to dig holes ....an ancestral need
  • Observe children without interfering....gaining precious knowledge about them.
  • People watch: children imitate the adult world for later in life. It is a great way of practising life and its many aspects.
  • Boredom is an essential element of creativity and problem solving! Let it be.
  • Stop organising and dictating what they should do in their free time....it is theirs!!
  • Be proficient about your teaching environment and its possibilities and then gone beyond your limitations or they will become your students'.
  • Create a healthy experience of TIME.
